Network equipment makers eye more WiMAX orders from Motorola, Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung

With more branded telecom equipment makers disclosing plans to switch from WiMAX to LTE (Long Term Evolution), Taiwan-based network equipment makers are now targeting Motorola, Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung Electronics for most of their WiMAX orders, according to market sources.

Alcatel-Lucent and Motorola are currently the two most active WiMAX equipment vendors with leading market shares, indicated the sources, noting that Alcatel-Lucent has entered interoperability testing with a number of Taiwan makers, including Asustek Computer, Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB), Quanta Microsystems, Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), and Zyxel Communications.

On the other hand, Motorola has already established business relations with two or three Taiwan WiMAX CPE makers, with shipments having been carried out, the sources added.

Samsung is reportedly in talks with Taiwan makers for the purchase of WiMAX equipment and CPE products for part of the WiMAX contracts it has secured from service operators in Europe and Asia, the sources further revealed.

In addition, Taiwan WiMAX makers may also target Cisco Systems and China-based Huawei Technologies and ZTE for additional orders, the sources contended.
