Telefónica and Huawei sign strategic agreement to deploy "Service Delivery Platform" serving whole Latin America
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero attend the signing ceremony
Huawei Technologies ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide, and Telefónica, the world biggest integrated operator, today announced the signing of a framework contract to deploy a new "Service Delivery Platform" (SDP) serving all countries in Telefónica' s Latin American region. The signing ceremony took place on Friday 30th of January and was attended by the Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, and the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, in the"Palacio de la Moncloa", official venue of the Spanish Government.
The SDP platform, to be commercially launched during the first half of 2009, unifies the delivery of value-added services and eases the process of implementing new services such worldwide universal e-mail, mobile newspapers, 3G messaging solutions or advertising on mobile phones. The SDP opens the possibility of offering convergence services, for both fixed and mobile networks, as well as for residential and enterprise markets. It will greatly reduce time-to-market; operational expenditure (OPEX) and capital investments (CAPEX) related costs.
Under the agreement, Huawei will provide Telefónica with a service-oriented architecture (SOA) based centralized SDP solution to serve whole Latin America, including 13 countries, integrating different network capabilities and business functionalities, providing a unified interface and service management. This unified platform, which is one of the most advanced and biggest SDP in the world, can be leveraged by third parties to develop new services and implement these faster, facilitating the creation of a rich ecosystem of services for customers.
"This platform allows us to integrate a seamless range of services for different networks and countries, so we can continue leading innovation for the mobile market throughout the Latin American region", explains Luis Miguel Gilpérez, Director, Mobile Business, at Telefónica Latin America.
"This project represents a new milestone in our long-term partnership with Telefónica", explains Tang Xiaoming, President of the Telefónica Global Account at Huawei Technologies. "The SDP platform provides a very innovative approach to the market and positions both companies as leaders in the delivery of innovative and profitable services that will benefit end users".
The Service Delivery Platform is a real driver for the transformation of the services layer of telecom operators, enabling them to create a richer value-added services offering, increasing customers' loyalty and enhancing end users' experience.
