MediaTek expected to see 2Q revenues up 20-30% on quarter
MediaTek is expected to see its second-quarter revenues increase by 20-30% on quarter and continue maintaining revenue and profit growth in 2009 thanks to strong handset chip orders as well as emerging demand for ICs used in TVs, optical storage devices and DVD players in the China market, according to industry sources.
MediaTek's March revenues will be between NT$9.3 billion (US$273.7 million) and NT$9.7 billion, lower than market watchers' earlier expectation of NT$10 billion, as its handset chip shipments to clients in China have lagged behind the volume of orders it has received. Demand for white-box handset chips is too strong and MediaTek's order volume in March has reached 30 billion units, resulting in the shortage of the company's handset chips, said the sources.
MediaTek's order volume for April is higher than that in March, which should drive the company's April revenues, the sources added.
