Qik Integrates With Nokia's Ovi Share and Will be a Featured Application on Ovi Store
Relationship with world's largest handset manufacturer allows easier sharing of mobile videos and wider distribution of Qik
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., -- Qik, the leading live mobile video streaming platform, today announced two key advancements for Nokia, the world's largest mobile device manufacturer. As one of the first developers to upload their application to www.publish.ovi.com, Qik will be featured on Nokia's recently publicized Ovi Store. In addition, Qik has integrated the ability for users to cross-post their Qik videos automatically to Nokia's Ovi Share service.
Qik lets anyone easily stream live video from their handset, sharing their moments in real-time with selected friends and family or the entire world. More than three dozen Nokia handsets are Qik-compatible, from mass market feature phones to elite smartphones. As a PRO member of Forum Nokia, the world's largest mobile developer support organization, Qik received tools and technical information to implement the seamless integration.
The Ovi Store is the important new marketplace where Nokia device owners will obtain applications, videos, widgets, personalized content and more. It aggregates the best experiences from Nokia's current content services, including Download!, MOSH and WidSets to a single channel, and expands upon Ovi Services to deliver content influenced by the people and places that matter to Nokia users.
Ovi Share is the online service that allows users to share photos and videos, from their PC, Mac or straight from their camera phone with one easy step. Users can share content with anyone - no sign-up or membership is required for recipients to view the photos or videos that have been shared with them.
"We're excited to offer the Ovi Share integration to the hundreds of millions of Nokia device owners around the world," said Qik CEO Ramu Sunkara. "This, in combination with being announced as a featured application for a marketplace as significant as the Ovi Store, is an important progression of Qik's relationship with Nokia."
"Nokia's Ovi Share brings the power of the internet in a simple and intuitive way, by enabling consumers to capture, save and share their photos and videos straight from the camera and gallery applications on their Nokia handset," said Lior Nir, Director of Product Management in Nokia's Media Services Group. "Qik integration with Nokia's Ovi Share strengthens our offering by bringing real-time video sharing on the Nokia handsets using Qik service and re-live it on Ovi Share."
"Qik is an excellent example of a powerful, easy-to-use application available now for Nokia devices," said Rob Taylor, Head of Forum Nokia. "At Forum Nokia, we're looking for companies like Qik that distinguish our extensive range of devices and services from the competition to further elevate the Ovi Store."
Qikkers can share their Qik content directly from their handsets - the first such Share on Ovi integration to offer such easy cross-posting of live mobile videos. Videos can be uploaded automatically from their device without users having to manually send them via the phone or website. In addition, Qik users can send their videos to Ovi Share with just one click from the Share widget on Qik's website. For more information on the Ovi Share integration, visit http://qik.com/ovi
