China’s 3G services come alive at Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference
China Mobile subsidiary, Hainan MCC and Nokia Siemens Networks jointly showcase latest TD-SCDMA services
China’s home grown 3G technology, TD-SCDMA took center stage at ‘Boao Forum for Asia’ (BFA) Annual Conference 2010 today. Hainan MCC, a subsidiary of the country’s leading operator, China Mobile showcased cutting edge 3G business and consumer applications such as mobile Internet access, video call, video monitoring and interactive voice response using its live, high-quality 3G TD-SCDMA network. The demonstration was supported by its solution partner Nokia Siemens Networks.
Nokia Siemens Networks and Hainan MCC also used the forum to showcase the energy efficient Green Solution that looks at reducing the environmental footprint of a mobile network through its entire lifecycle, decreasing energy consumption up to 70%.
Attending the 3G TD-SCDMA live service, TD-LTE and Green Solution demos were dignitaries such as Matti Vanhanen, Prime Minister of Finland and Li Rong Rong, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council, China.
“We are very confident of our 3G TD-SCDMA solution and feel proud to showcase its capabilities at Boao forum. Nokia Siemens Networks has provided us such tremendous on ground support, that our 2G and 3G TD-SCDMA networks are optimized and ready to handle high throughput and access rates demanded by cutting edge applications,” said Zhou Chengyang, President of Hainan MCC. “As evidenced at our highly successful demo, we have laid a solid foundation to launch commercial services in the Hainan province and are looking forward to working closely with Nokia Siemens Networks towards large scale and high quality TD-SCDMA services.”
The sole supplier for Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province during China Mobile’s 3G TD-SCDMA phase two deployment, Nokia Siemens Networks completed the network rollout by the end of February, enabling Hainan MCC to make the first video call in public on March 18. In fact, with infrastructure currently being deployed across 28 major cities throughout China, Nokia Siemens Networks has provided the top performing city networks based on 3G TD-SCDMA commercial readiness.
“We are honored to support Hainan MCC and demonstrate live 3G services at Boao Forum,” added Zhang Zhiqiang, Head of Nokia Siemens Networks, Greater China region. “Given our high quality solutions and fast roll-out capability, we are well positioned to be the most trusted partner to China Mobile. We aim to fully support Chinese operators to build world-class 3G platforms and continue to play a key role in the development of the TD-SCDMA ecosystem in the country.”
