OLPC updates laptop OLPC XO 1.5 - Processor VIA C7-M instead of AMD Geode
The organization OLPC ( «One Laptop Per Child»), develops low-cost OLPC XO laptop for children in developing countries, announced that it intends to update the laptop existing generation XO-1 while maintaining its external design and low price.
The laptop's new generation of this series was called the OLPC XO 1.5. It will be faster and more powerful than the original version. As it became known, the manufacturer will replace the AMD Geode processor in a more powerful VIA C7-M, operating at a frequency of 400 MHz to 1.5 GHz. In addition to the processor, the updated notebook will have 1 GB of RAM (instead of 512 MB) and from 4 to 8 GB on the flash drive. In case your laptop will use a new chipset VX855, which includes the engine
with 3D-graphics, HD-video decoder, USB-hub, and so on.
In the OLPC XO 1.5 will be used the same display as the first generation XO. But we know also that the OLPC is working with the company PixelQi, designer displays a new class of mini-notebooks, and is therefore expected that the updated OLPC XO 1.5 will soon be added to the display, made by new technology, which will be more bright and low power consumption .
The first samples of 1,5 XO laptop will be submitted for testing at the end of May. A large volume of prototype laptop (several hundred) for software development and testing will be available around the end of August.
