China Mobile chairman to visit Taiwan on August 21
China Mobile chairman Wang Jiangzhou will arrive in Taipei on August 21 for a 9-day visit. In addition to visiting Taiwan-based carriers such as Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), Wang is also expected to announce a number of joint investment projects with local companies, according to industry sources.
Wang may sign cooperation agreements with Taiwan-based companies for joint development of TD-SCDMA technology and CPE products, and MediaTek is one of the most likely candidates to join related TD-SCDMA projects, the sources said.
Wang, CHT chairman Shyue-Ching Lu and HTC (High Tech Computer) CEO Peter Chou will exchange views regarding technologies and services of the telecom industry in a seminar scheduled on the evening of August 24, the sources noted.
Wang will also pay a visit to the Taiwan government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Hsinchu on August 26, to see the process of the establishment of a TD-SCDMA experimental network to be set up by the research institute, the sources added.
