HTC (High Tech Computer) on August 24 signed a MOU with China-based carrier China Mobile to cooperate in the development of TD-SCDMA technology and related products, according to a joint press release of the companies.
The cooperation will initially focus on enhancing China Mobile's current flagship TD-SCDMA products. Both parties will coordinate efforts to develop mobile phone products addressing to China market demand trends, said the companies.
The cooperation will also cover the development and promotion of TD-LTE terminals. Both companies will work continuously to streamline and improve the communication channels essential to cooperative product R&D, indicated the press release.
HTC plans to launch one model of TD-SCDMA handset in the second half of 2009 and at least another five models in 2010, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou as saying.
Wang also said that he believes the cooperation between HTC and China Mobile will help expand the TD-SCDMA industry chain and spur the development of the telecom sector in both China and Taiwan.
