Smartphones Make Smart Choices for Florida Back-To-School Shopping

TAMPA, Fla., -- While there is no "Tax Free Week" this year for Florida consumers, Verizon Wireless is offering a variety of special discounts on smartphones and many advanced wireless technologies to help parents, students and other back-to-school shoppers.

Verizon Wireless has discounted most of its smartphones to a budget-friendly $99 (with a two-year contract), including the Blackberry Storm, HTC Ozone and others. These advanced devices are not just sleek style statements, but are packed with features and a vast array of multi-media applications to help students stay on time, on task, organized and informed.

Other deals and discounts offered (dates) include $50 instant rebates, 25 percent off Bluetooth and other accessories, and other reduced prices on wireless services and devices.

"With no Tax-Free Week this year, we hope these back-to-school deals will help parents and students," said Pam Tope, Florida region President of Verizon Wireless. "We've made the prices right, and we know the phones are popular."

A recent survey by CNW Marketing Research revealed cell phones as the most popular possession among youth, followed by electronic games, footwear, computers and then cars.

In addition to smartphones, here are some of the latest and most popular wireless devices for students:

•LG enV3: Slim and feature-packed, this handset boasts a full, compact QWERTY keyboard and a 2.6" internal screen for unsurpassed messaging speed and convenience. LG enV3 includes a 3.0 megapixel camera and camcorder, Bluetooth(R) stereo capability, a music player, and a Favorites key that enables users to connect with their ten most frequent contacts in a flash. One-touch speakerphone, speaker-independent voice commands and large, widely spaced external keys designed for easy dialing round out the impressive specs.
•MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot: The MiFi 2200 lets customers create a personal, mobile Wi-Fi cloud that can be shared by five users at once on the high-speed Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Broadband network.
•HP Mini 1151NR Netbook: The HP Mini combines the connectivity of a laptop with the mobility of a wireless phone. It features built-in Mobile Broadband and wi-fi, and is ideal for email, web-surfing and "cloud computing." At under 3 pounds, with a 10.1-inch display and 20 GB hard drive, it is a lot of computer in a small package and price ($199 with a monthly data plan).
