Huawei Launches World' s First End-to-End 100G Solutions

Solutions will enable operators to develop advanced and reliable ultra-broadband networks.

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced the launch of end-to-end (E2E) 100G solutions at P&T/Wireless & Network Comm China 2009 in Beijing. Integrating with router and optical systems, the 100G solutions establish Huawei as the first worldwide supplier to provide E2E 100G solutions for its customers.

Together, the solutions will enable operators to establish enhanced ultra-broadband networks and provide their subscribers with value-added services, such as mobile broadband, high-definition video and enterprise telepresence. Huawei' s E2E 100G solutions can be implemented through networking of the 100GE port-based NE5000E router cluster system and the OSN6800/8800 OTN system supporting "40/80-channel x 100G". As a result, operators will be able to increase competitiveness by substantially improving network capacity, simplifying network architecture and enriching service offerings.

Huawei' s 100G solutions, including 100GE cards (1x100GE and 10x10GE) for routers and WDM 100G OTU, will be ready for commercial deployment in Huawei's high-end NE routers and OTNs.

The 100GE cards for routers will increase switching capacity of the NE5000E router cluster system to 200T, allowing operators to meet network capacity expansion requirements. Adopting its self-developed Solar 2.0 100G chipsets, the cards will offer wire-speed forwarding capability and guaranteed services. Particularly, the forwarding engine chip PFE2A features 100G wire-speed, programmable capability, full-service offering, green and energy-efficient designs.

The WDM 100G OTU will also increase transport capacity over a single optical fiber to 8T. Based on Huawei' s 100G optical/electrical module and core chips, WDM 100G OTU is compatible with both advanced coding modulation and coherent detection techniques and provides hybrid transport speeds of 100G and 10G/40G, enabling 40/80-channel 1500 km transport. In addition, 100G OTU helps the overall evolution of the WDM transport network by utilizing advanced, large-capacity OTN switching and ASON technologies.

Bill Lynch, senior chipset architect of Huawei Technologies U.S.A. said, "The chip and the coherent optical communications technologies are the key for product performance. In 2005, America R&D Center of Huawei embarked on R&D on 100G chip and 100G coherent detection algorithms. Leveraging powerful technical competence through years' efforts, the industry's top talents at the America R&D Center successfully launched to the markets the industry-leading Solar 2.0 100G chipset and the ODSP 100G coherent optical communications chipset. The launch of these chipsets has also fortified Huawei's leading position in IP and optical fields."

"Over the years, Huawei has put forth tremendous effort in the area of IP and optical networks to better meet the requirements of our customers, develop innovative solutions and actively advance the 100G standardization," said Ding Yun, president of Huawei' s Network Product Line. "Huawei is proud to be the industry's sole supplier of E2E 100G solutions. This achievement is a milestone for Huawei and reaffirms our commitment to helping our customers reach their performance goals."

Huawei, having worked with leading operators across the globe including China Mobile, China Telecom, BT, Telefonica, and Etisalat, has, to date, established approximately 100 backbone networks and 600 metro networks worldwide. The shipment of Huawei NE5000E and multi-chassis system in the globe has exceeded 1000 sets and the 160,000 sets of OTNs have been shipped to global operators.

According to consulting firm, Huawei ranked number one in the global WDM market and achieved the largest increase in market share in the global router market in the first quarter of 2009
