Taiwan market: Handset vendors to launch more 12-megapixel cameraphones to boost year-end sales
Samsung Electronics and Taiwan-based digital camera maker Altek both plan to introduce 12-megapixel cameraphones in the Taiwan market to boost year-end sales, according to market sources.
Samsung's 12.1-megapixel M8910 Pixon 12 handset, which features a 3.1-inch AMOLED touch screen, auto focus, a 28mm wide-angle lens and Xenon flash and supports 3.5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS technologies, will be available in the local market soon, said the sources.
Altek will launch its 12.2-megapixel touchscreen T8680 and non-touchscreen A806 in the local market later this month. Altek launched the T8680 in China in September 2009. The T8680 will carry a suggested retail price of NT$12,900 (US$400.6) and the A806 will be priced below NT$10,000.
Samsung's and Altek's 12-megapixel handsets come following the successful launch of the 12-megapixel Satio U1 in the local market by Sony Ericsson. The Satio U1 carries a suggested retail price of around NT$13,900.
In additional news, LG Electronics (LGE) also plans to launch a total of eight new handsets, including the Chocolate BL20, BL40 and KV600 Ice Cream 2 and GD580 Lollipop, in the Taiwan market soon, the sources added.
