GestureTek Earns Apex Award at Digital Signage Expo

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and LAS VEGAS -- GestureTek Inc., world leader in gesture control interfaces for interactive displays and devices, announced that its multi-touch interactive tables at The Official NYC Visitor Center earned an Apex Award in the Art, Entertainment and Recreation category at the 2010 Digital Signage Expo (DSE).

The award was presented at the opening-night banquet at the Las Vegas Convention Center. View a video of the award-winning installation at http://www.gesturetek.com/videos/illuminate/businesscases/nyc-visitors-center-hq.wmv.

This innovative information display located in Times Square enables visitors and locals to find current information about events and attractions. The installation features GestureTek's Illuminate® multi-touch table with object recognition capability and custom content. Using two-handed multi-touch gestures, visitors can obtain information about desired destinations, enjoy a Google Earth "fly-through" trip around New York and build a personal sightseeing itinerary. Visitors use a puck-like object to manipulate the system and make selections. The project was led by VideoSonic Systems, Inc. for NYC & Company, New York City's marketing organization. W X Y Architecture and Urban Design handled architectural design.

"GestureTek, NYC & Company and VideoSonic share this honor," said Vincent John Vincent, GestureTek's President. "Visitors love the system's engaging, entertaining and informative multi-touch experience and its innovative content and applications. It's the kind of experience one expects amid the buzz of Times Square."

Journalists from Digital Signage Magazine, Digital Signage Today, PRO AV Magazine, Sound & Communications and Digital Signage Expo selected nominees in eight categories. Other installations using GestureTek technology were also nominated, according to Vincent.

The award-winning installation will be featured in a DSE panel discussion, "Trends in Interactive Gestural Touch Screen Applications", with Vincent and Daniel Hernandez, IT Vice-President, NYC & Company.
