ZTE to launch first Android handset with 3
Manufacturer launches Android handset for entry level market.
Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE is entering into the Android market with the ZTE Racer on 3.
The handset, aimed at the entry level of the market, will be available on pay-as-you-go at £99.99 and on contract starting at £15 per month.
The touch screen handset, which will operate on Android Éclair 2.1, has a 3.2MP camera and FM radio.
ZTE started working with 3 in 2005 and since then, has launched several handsets through the operator.
Another Android handset is set to be released next month.
Speaking at joint ZTE and 3 event, ZTE director of mobile device operations, Wu Sa, said: ‘Android is one of the most important operating systems for ZTE. The smart phone is a strategic evolutions of the mobile device for carriers and ZTE.’
3 head of internet services, David Kerrigan, said: ‘At 3 we want to make sure that customers have the best internet experience on their handsets. We want to offer a great range of handsets and price points as part of our internet experience success.’
‘The price point [of the Racer] means the Android experience is available to an incredibly wide audience.’
