Smart features for smartphones
Smarter phones require smarter networks features. Ericsson is working together with its partners to help operators meet the new demands the growing number of smartphone users have by introducing a number of energy efficient features.
Millions of subscribers are making the switch to smartphones as more and more operators launch devices and average selling price continues to fall. The latest figures from IDC, a market research company, show that sales of smartphones reached 101 million at the end of 2010, which is an 87 percent increase from the previous year.
Smartphone subscribers are bigger users of email, social networking and online video services than their feature phone-owning counterparts – and they like to use these services wherever and whenever.
This puts great demands on coverage, battery life and network capacity – demands that Ericsson is working together with handset vendors and chipset markers to meet.
