HTC ChaCha Gets Processor Upgrade & OTA Update

HTC has quietly upgraded the ChaCha, its first Android smartphone to come with a portrait oriented keyboard, with an 800MHz Qualcomm SoC, up from a 600MHz model, a 33 per cent improvement which should translate into a better user experience.
The rest of the phone's configuration hasn't changed. There's still that 2.6-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, a microSD card reader, a 1250mAh battery, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, a five-megapixel rear camera with flash, a QWERTY keyboard, a Facebook button, a VGA front facing camera and runs on Android 2.3 with HTC Sense UI.

The ChaCha has been confirmed on Vodafone as well as the other major mobile phone operators. The phone has also received its first over the air update which will take the new build number to 1.18.401.1. HTC did not say which improvements, if any, the update brings.
With a suggested retail price of £250 SIM Free, the ChaCha will be one of the cheapest Android handsets with a proper keyboard and more than a match for the likes of the Nokia E72 or the C6 which are similarly priced.
Acer has the BeTouch e210 which costs just under £215 but has a slower processor, an older version of Android and half the screen resolution.
