Ericsson IPX Launches Mobile Payments with Social Network Badoo.com
IPX is enabling Badoo subscribers across the UK to make mobile payments for premium features and services
In April we announced that social network Badoo had launched mobile payments, enabled by Ericsson IPX. UK-based users of Badoo’s social network, which has over 120 million users worldwide, are now able to purchase premium features and services using their mobile phones. Badoo operates a freemium based business model, which allows users to register, create a profile and upload images at no cost. Premium services such as ‘Super Powers’ and ‘Rise Up’ can then be paid for by the user via card, PayPal and SMS.
Thanks to IPX, Badoo’s members can make purchases using just their mobile handset with transactions either charged to their monthly bill, or removed from their prepay balance. By providing consumers with a fast, secure and easy payment method, Badoo expects to convert a greater proportion of its user base in to premium service users. Bart Swanson, COO of Badoo, says: “Providing consumers with a mobile payment method for premium services is vital for the success of any freemium based business, by making purchases simple with SMS, we expect more of our members to be able to use and appreciate premium services.” Badoo has recently started a marketing campaign to raise awareness and increase the number of members using these new services.
As a global e-commerce enabler, Ericsson IPX provides delivery and charging, using direct billing, premium SMS, Web and online mobile payment. For more information on mobile payments and the carrier billing service provided by Ericsson IPX, please contact your Account Manager.
