MTS increased capacity of the main canal from Moscow to St. Petersburg of 10
Telecommunications operator MTS announced a comprehensive modernization of fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) between Moscow and St. Petersburg over 1 000 km. Installation of new equipment, according to the operator, has increased the bandwidth of 10 to 4000 Gb / s, which will provide quality work MTS Internet services in most Russian regions with high rates of growth of fixed and mobile traffic.
Through a section of fiber optic Moscow - St. Petersburg MTS sends mobile and fixed Internet traffic, voice traffic at the international and roaming calls and SMS MTS of Russia, as well as the passing of voice and SMS traffic subscribers between Moscow and St. Petersburg. This channel provides the exchange of traffic most of the Russian users of fixed and mobile networks with foreign Internet resources.
The modernization of the operator replaced the routers in St. Petersburg, updated equipment in Moscow and moved to the new generation of technology DWDM, provides reception and transmission at 100 Gbit / s per channel. Thus, the total capacity of the network on the Moscow - St. Petersburg increased 10 times and reached 4000Gbit / s.
At present, the length of fiber optic MTS in Russia is about 140,000 km. During 2013 MTS plans to expand the capacity of fiber-optic route from Moscow to Yekaterinburg, and upgrade the network in the south to expand the capacity of the international connection with Ukraine, through which MTS also exchange traffic with Western Europe.
