ChkBugReport bug analysis tool updated with new features [presentation]
Do you remember Sony’s ChkBugReport tool that was published on our GitHub last year? ChkBugReport is a tool for analysing the output of an Android™ bugreport. Now Pál Szász, who created the tool, has added some new features and made several updates to it. You can also download a presentation about ChkBugReport that Pál held at Droidcon Berlin a couple of weeks ago. Learn more after the jump!
ChkBugReport is one of Sony’s open source developer tools, available for free to all Android developers. This is a tool that we really hope a lot of people will find useful, and also contribute to on GitHub. The tool takes the output of the Android bugreport tool, which is the large text file, and presents its content in a much more structured and readable way. Since we released it about a year ago, several new features have been added. For example:
Support for external plug-ins, written in Java or as XML files. This allows you to filter the log according to your needs, and to create custom plots, just to mention a couple of examples. Read more about this in the presentation about ChkBugReport!
Interactive charts, using the Flot javascript library.
Support for auto-detecting certain files, for example stack trace dumps and logs.
A simple graphical user interface (GUI) with drag and drop support.
A lot of fixes and general UI improvements have also been made, and more new features are coming. So stay tuned to Developer World, or follow the project on GitHub to get the latest news.
To learn more about ChkBugReport, you can download a presentation about ChkBugReport called “Apps in the system”. This presentation was held by Pál Szasz at Droidcon Berlin a few weeks ago. In that presentation, you will also get to know XAppDbg, another tool developed by Pál. XAppDbg is an app development tool which can be used to change parameters in your code during runtime. This can save you a lot of time, since you don’t have to build and run your application for each small change. Go ahead and check it out, and drop us a comment below if you have any questions!
