Samsung Working On A Foldable Display Tablet? Samsung Galaxy Tab 4?
Flexible displays seem to attract a lot of attention, and I can understand why. What bugs me is that there are a lot of so-called “insiders” who are eager to jump to conclusions and spread misleading information regarding this type of technology, more specifically concerning availability towards the consumer.
Yes, Samsung, LG, and other companies have already developed flexible / bendable / foldable displays, as they continue to push the technology forward in their labs. But there’s still a long way to go until we’ll be able to benefit from this type of tech ourselves, as consumers.
The same story repeated with the Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, and more recently with the Note 3 which -according to early reports from “sources”- was supposed to feature a flexible and indestructible screen. This will most likely not going to happen, and more recent rumors have pointed out that both LG and Samsung have postponed their mobile products featuring flexible displays, due to various production issues.
But again, technology moves forward and it’s only a matter of time before these panels will hit the market. Speaking of which, it appears that Samsung is considering building a tablet with a foldable display. Check out the patent filing below and join us after the break for more details.
Samsung Working On A Fold-able Display Tablet? Samsung Galaxy Tab 4?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 – New Design; Foldable Display?
The image you see above represents one of a handful of patents that have been recently published by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Long story short, it depicts one of Samsung’s possible future devices, or at least one of the manufacturer’s visions for the future.
The gadget is called “Samsung Tablet PC” -evidently just a placeholder, patent moniker. However, this may very well be Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 4 concept. After all, as the manufacturer continues to improve its flexible display manufacturing process, we might see this kind of devices launching during 2014. The gadget displayed in the image above clearly packs a foldable display, with one part turning into what looks to be an on-screen keyboard, an area where the stylus would come in handy, or who knows what else?!
Now, keep in mind that it doesn’t necessarily mean that this device is the Tab 4, or that it will arrive in 2014. It represents Samsung’s view of a future tablet which features a foldable/flexible screen, which may or may not become a reality. Hopefully, we’ll see more of it.
Thanks Patent Bolt for the heads-up regarding the Samsung foldable display.
