Leaked Android 4.3 firmware for Nexus 4 improves graphics performance
There is a system dump of Android 4.3 for the Nexus 4 appeared online. The dump was created by a user who claims to have. Nexus 4 by a Google employee bought The firmware appears to improve. Graphics performance significantly
This dump is now downloadable on various websites. It is build JWR66N, which had already leaked to the Google edition of the Galaxy S 4. Initially a TWRP backup online put that was somewhat cumbersome to turn back, but now there are also more prevalent cwm -zips to find . The baseband is not part of the dump, but it would also soon have to come out.
Android 4.3 brings hardly any visual innovations. There are a few extra options added in the settings menu, but otherwise seems to be the latest version identical to Android 4.2.2. Under the hood there is the necessary change. So there are optimizations implemented allowing the GPU when running apps deployed efficiently. Especially on slower devices can in theory make apps run faster.
Furthermore gone in Android 4.3 Bluetooth stack on the shovel and there is now support for Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0, a new version of the Bluetooth standard that allows more efficient devices. Another new standard that is now supported OpenGL ES 3.0.
Tweakers has some benchmarks on a 4 Nexus with Android 4.3 released and it shows that there is difference is in the area of synthetic and performance.
| CFBench - Native score | ||
|---|---|---|
| Phone / Tablet | OS | in points, higher is better |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.2.2 | 22876 |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.3 | 22342 |
| CFBench - Java score | ||
|---|---|---|
| Phone / Tablet | OS | in points, higher is better |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.3 | 7390 |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.2.2 | 6872 |
CFBench shows barely see in the native benchmark difference, and that is logical, since the hardware is still the same. In the Java test we see that the Nexus 4 with Android 4.3 just performs better. That is not surprising: Google knows every new Android release the Dalvik VM which further optimize.
| GL Benchmark 2.5 - Egypt HD | ||
|---|---|---|
| Phone / Tablet | OS | framerate in fps, higher is better |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.3 | 44.0 |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.2.2 | 39.0 |
| GL Benchmark 2.5 - Egypt HD - offscreen | ||
|---|---|---|
| Phone / Tablet | OS | framerate in fps, higher is better |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.3 | 39.0 |
| Nexus 4 | Android 4.2.2 | 33.0 |
It seems that Google and Qualcomm not only OpenGL ES 3.0 support the GPU drivers are added, but also have invested in the further optimization of the drivers time. In the graphical benchmark scores GFXBench the Nexus 4 with Android 4.3 ie a lot better.
