3rd column of Tiles on the Start Screen on Windows Phone depends on the screen size and not its resolution
Yesterday, a lot of us were confused when we saw the third column of tiles on the Lumia 1320. Now, Joe Belfiore had earlier Tweeted that the third column of tiles was only for devices with 1080p displays, so it was baffling how a device with 720p display was flashing the feature? Well, the mystery has been cleared by non other than Mr. Belfiore himself.
In a Tweet, Joe told that the third column of tiles actually depended on the screen size and not necessarily its resolution. He has clarified that the option to implement the third column depends on the manufacturers and the screen resolution is not a deciding factor. Well, that’s good to hear, but the main question still remains whether the existing devices would be getting the feature or not. What exactly qualifies as a “big screen” for manufacturers? And would existing devices with decent screen size, like the Lumia 92x, 1020, 625 and the Samsung ATIV S get the extra column?
Guess, we’ll have to wait and see what’s the manufacturers take on the situation. Sure, we wouldn’t mind some more tiles on our existing devices, but the final decision to implement the feature lies with them.
