Samsung and LG Expand Their Fierce Competition From The Korean Home Turf To China
As with any other huge business, the competition between smartphone manufacturers is quite fierce. Samsung is currently the biggest player, holding almost 40% of the global smartphone market share for Q3 2013. But as usual, the Korean manufacturer continues to aim even higher.
Unsurprisingly, the second biggest Korean mobile giant is of course, LG, and while the company in question has been beaten on a global scale by Huawei, LG continues to fight really hard to go up in ranks. More so, there is a fierce, well known, ages old competition between LG and Samsung, as both companies constantly challenge each other in a more or less tacit manner. As an example, when it came to delivering the very first smartphone with a flexible display, we’ve witnessed a pretty intense race between these two companies. Samsung has even decided to launch the Galaxy Round in limited numbers and without a curved battery, for the sole purpose of being first.
The competition however, is far from being over, and official reports now indicate that both Samsung and LG are planning on doing battle in China.
Chinese carriers are now on their final stages of introducing LTE on the market, and according to official reports coming from Korea, both LG and Samsung want a piece of that action.
The Chinese LTE market is expected to be fired up sometime in 2014, and the aforementioned Korean companies have already partnered up with China Mobile in order to deliver their products.
The big deal with the Chinese smartphone market is that, it actually holds 25% of the global market. There are currently 1.2 billion mobile subscribers in that part of the world, and overall, this particular market can change the dynamics of the global LTE market as well. Whichever manufacturer will manage to win the Chinese high-end smartphone market will also win a big chunk of the global share. Even Apple is using China as a strategic market.
So, which one of these manufacturers do you think will win the battle for supremacy? I think we’re going to play it safe and put our “virtual money” on Samsung, though we’d very much like to see LG enjoying its share of success as well.
