Nigeria: LG, Starcomms Offer Free Phone Repair Service
LG Electronics and Starcomms recently went into partnership to offer free repair services for their customers across Lagos State. The partnership between LG Electronics, a worldwide technology leader in mobile communications, specialising in all UMTS (WCDMA), CDMA and GSM handsets and Starcomms, the country's largest CDMA 3G mobile network was commended by customers who described the gesture as "noteworthy"
LG Electronics' General Manager, Mobile Communications, Mr. S.K Park said the company extended the offer to its customers as part of after-sales services. According to Park, "We are passionately committed to our customers and decided to offer them these after sales service as part of our reward scheme. During the free repair service window which was widely publicised, LG-trained professionals were on ground to assist with bad screen displays, faulty chargers, key pad problems and other faults."
Customers trooped into the Starcomms-LG Service Camps located in Victoria Island , Apapa, Surulere and Ikeja to have their LG Desktop Phones sold by Starcomms repaired.
One of the customers, Mr Abiodun Alabi said his phone which had had a screen display problem for some time was promptly repaired.
According to Alabi, "these are some of the services we look forward to by all operators in the telecoms industry. LG and Starcomms should be commended in this regard."
Speaking on LG's mobile communications business, Mr. Park explained that with a full range of wired and wireless solutions, LG Electronics is rapidly establishing a global presence and growing its international market share in 3G handsets. LG will also build a foundation for future growth through its WCDMA and HSDPA expertise while focusing on providing 3G phones to major carriers. The company's LG-KU250 handset, a sleek and slim 3G mobile phone, was selected in 2007 for the GSM
Association's "3G for All" campaign by a consortium of the twelve largest mobile operators.
Mr Park further said LG will continue to build on the success of its Black Label series, the premium handset brand featuring LG Chocolate and LG Shine. Another premium handset, PRADA Phone by LG, is the world's first full touch screen phone. It was created through a partnership between LG and Italian fashion house, PRADA.
To enhance profitability, LG will achieve operational excellence by focusing on a global platform strategy, which is an effective way to maximize profits with fewer models. The company's 2007 shipment goal is 78 million units, which is a 21 percent increase from 2006.
