NTT DoCoMo to Offer Flat-Rate Packet-Data Billing Plans for Mobile PC Users
TOKYO, JAPAN, September 13, 2007 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries today announced attractive new flat-rate data communication plans that will take effect on October 22. The plans, designed for mobile PC users who connect to the DoCoMo network via a FOMA™ PC card, USB-linked DoCoMo phone or HSDPA-capable PC, assure that heavy or regular users of packet-data communications won't have to worry about widely fluctuating monthly bills.
"Flat-Rate Data Plan HIGH-SPEED" for 3.6Mbps (best effort) packet services will cost 4,200 yen/month (incl. tax) for up to 500,000 packets, then rise on a pay-as-you-go basis up to a maximum of 10,500 yen/month beyond one million packets. The plan requires subscription to the new "mopera U U Flat-Rate HIGH-SPEED Plan" (840 yen/month) or "Business mopera Internet (HIGH-SPEED)" (630 yen/month) for Internet access (certain access points may not be compatible with the plans).
DoCoMo will also offer the 64Kbps (best effort) "Flat-Rate Data Plan 64K" for 4,200 yen/month (incl. tax). The plan requires subscription to the new "mopera U U Flat-Rate 64K Plan" (525 yen/month) or "Business mopera Internet (64K) plan" (315 yen/month) for Internet access (certain access points may not be compatible).
The plans cover sending/receiving messages and viewing still content (text and photos) on Web sites. Streamed video, downloaded FTP file transfers, i-mode communications and voice/videophone calls are not covered. Packet communications outside Japan, as well as via domestic access points that are not compatible with flat-rate packet communications services, will be charged on a pay-as-you-go basis.
DoCoMo's initial offering of terminals compatible with the plans are two data cards:
A2502 HIGH-SPEED and M2501 HIGH-SPEED
and seven handsets:
N904i, P903iX HIGH-SPEED, F903iX HIGH-SPEED, N902iX HIGH-SPEED, L704i (coming in October), F1100 and HT1100 (latter two coming in first quarter of 2008).
Laptops capable of accessing FOMA HIGH-SPEED services when combined with a DoCoMo SIM card will include the Sony VAIO type S and type T models and Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO LOOX T70XNX and LOOX U50XNX models, all of which are expected to be launched by PC manufacturers in the near future.
As a promotion, subscribers to Flat-Rate Data Plan HIGH-SPEED will be able to use packet communications for 4,200yen/month on an unlimited basis between October 22, 2007 and January 31, 2008.
