Motorola Gets Products to Market Faster Using ExpeDat File-Transfer Software

BOSTON, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A newly released case study shows how Motorola has cut product development times by using Data Expedition, Inc.'s ExpeDat file transfer software to speed up engineering data transfers. Since deploying ExpeDat, data transfer times have been cut by 86%. Motorola engineers estimate this to be equivalent to a 40% expansion of total system infrastructure, but at a small fraction of what that would have cost.

Motorola's Advanced Product Technology Center, located in Plantation, FL, manages a network of high-performance computing centers sited around the globe. Part of their focus is to perform mechanical simulation drop tests for Motorola products. With a network of 45-megabit per second (mbps) lines connecting these global design centers, and average data sets in the 2 - 25 gigabytes range, maximizing network throughput is critical to getting Motorola products to market quicker.

On average, Motorola's engineers were achieving only 6 - 7 mbps ofthroughput until they began using ExpeDat. Now data moves at 42 - 45 mbps.

"ExpeDat was easy to implement and data transfer is now up to seven times faster between global design centers. Additionally, we've been able to consolidate our servers deployed throughout Asia, enabling a significant cost savings on hardware," said the Lead Network Engineer with Motorola's Mechanical Simulation Drop Test Analysis Group.

Data Expedition, Inc. (DEI), a global provider of software solutions for network performance and reliability, has developed ExpeDat to help companies of all sizes improve data throughput with an easy to deploy software solution. The Multipurpose Transaction Protocol (MTP/IP), which underpins ExpeDat's data movement, provides real throughput gains and not just compression or caching. Thus, even Motorola's unique simulation files can be transferred at maximum speed.

About ExpeDat:
Based on DEI's Multipurpose Transaction Protocol (MTP/IP), ExpeDat is an entirely software-based product that improves data transfer performance across stressed and Wide Area Networks (WANs). The greater speed, reliability, and scalability of MTP/IP allows ExpeDat to see real throughput improvements, regardless of the data type or encoding.
