Nokia trial against InterDigital set to begin
HELSINKI, Oct 15 (Reuters) - A trial in the case filed by the world's largest cellphone maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) against InterDigital (IDCC.O: Quote, Profile, Research) starts on Monday in Britain, Nokia said.
Nokia said it filed a complaint in July 2005 asking the UK High Court to declare that 31 of InterDigital's European patents are not essential to the UMTS mobile technology standards and that the trial of the case begins on Oct. 15.
"Nokia believes this is an example of a company attempting to misuse the standard-setting process by asserting that many of its patents are essential when this is not the case," Nokia's spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.
