Chunghwa Telecom to purchase 2.2 million handsets in 2008
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) says it will purchase 2.2 million handsets in 2008, the same amount it purchased in 2007.
However, the procurement value will increase to NT$18 billion (NT$557 million) in 2008 from NT$17 billion in 2007 as the ratio of 3G models to all handsets purchased will rise to 50% in 2008 from the 40% in 2007, according to CHT.
CHT plans to launch 10 ultra-low cost handsets in 2008 with each model priced below NT$1,000 (US$31), and the company is now in talks with a number of vendors, including BenQ, Motorola and Nokia, for the supply of those handsets, said CHT.
CHT also expects to sell 100,000 customized handsets from High Tech Computer (HTC) in 2008 after selling an equal amount of customized models made by the Taiwan-based vendor in the past 18 months, CHT added.
