Red Bend Software Provides Access to the Full Potential of Mobile Devices at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2008
Unveils the First Over-the-Air Software Customizable Linux Mobile Phone, Demonstrates Background Updating of Firmware Improvements, Joins Telit Wireless Solutions to Speak About FOTA on M2M Devices
WHO:
Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management, with several partners in the mobile device and M2M markets.
WHAT:
Red Bend will unveil the industry’s first Linux mobile phone with software that can be fully customized over the air. Red Bend will showcase MAST – a concept phone based on the Trolltech® Qtopia® application platform for Linux and implemented on Trolltech’s Qtopia Greenphone™. MAST, short for Master Key, demonstrates how new features, applications and services can be deployed and updated easily and securely over the air on consumers’ handsets using Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile™. Several companies—including Digital Airways, Opera, Synchronica, Trolltech and Zi—have joined with Red Bend to show how operators and manufacturers can customize individual software components over-the-air (SCOTA) on feature phones as well as smartphones, creating new revenue opportunities by delivering enhanced services and features to consumers.
Red Bend will also demonstrate the new Background Updating feature of its market-leading vCurrent® Mobile client software for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating. Version 5 of vCurrent Mobile is the first FOTA solution to update firmware while a consumer is using the phone, without taking the device offline—a significant improvement to the mobile user experience. This innovation completely changes the paradigm of how FOTA updates are performed, and eliminates a barrier to adoption by making irrelevant the issue of update time.
In addition, Red Bend and Telit Wireless Solutions, an international provider of cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, will co-present “Maximizing the Lifetime Value of M2M Devices,” on February 13, 2008, during the Applications & Services stream. Executives from the two companies will discuss:
· The business case for M2M and the latest innovative applications
· Current challenges with realizing the full potential of M2M
· New advancements in MSM for improving the ROI of M2M devices and applications
· How developers, manufacturers, operators and enterprises can maximize the lifetime value of M2M devices
Red Bend is also jointly speaking with Trolltech in a presentation titled, “Open Source on Open Phones: How to Extend the Benefits of Open Source to the Consumer.” The presentation will be given on February 14, 2008, during the session, “Succeeding in a Device-Centric World.” The two companies will present:
· Benefits of open platforms for consumers and the mobile value chain
· Can / should open platforms be controlled and managed? If so, by whom?
· Implications and challenges in managing software on open mobile phones
· New capabilities in Mobile Software Management and what they mean to open platforms
