Samsung expected to step up cooperation with FIH for handset assembly
Samsung Electronics is expected to further strengthen its cooperation with Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) as the South Korean handset vendor is targeting to ship 200 million handsets in 2008, according to sources in Taiwan's handset industry.
Samsung, the world's second-largest handset vendor by volume, is likely to subcontract the assembly of whole handsets for a number of its models to FIH this year, the sources indicated.
Samsung is also expected to utilize FIH's production capacity in India and Latin America as well as FIH's global logistics capability to boost its penetration in emerging markets, the sources added.
Samsung shipped 46 million handsets to emerging markets in the first three quarters of 2007, with such shipments likely to reach 65-70 million units in 2008, the sources estimated.
