Yahoo! Further Extends Mobile Leadership: Yahoo! Go Selected "Best Mobile Infotainment Portal"
Validates Yahoo!'s Mobile Vision, Leadership, and Product Innovation
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain – Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO) announced that its innovative Yahoo! Go 2.0 service has won the "Best Mobile Infotainment Portal" award at the Global Mobile Awards 2008. Launched in early 2007 as an essential mobile starting point, Yahoo! Go 2.0 redefined the mobile Internet experience for consumers through unique product design, the ability to personalize with content from the entire Internet, and a reinvention of mobile search.
"In 2007, we redefined the mobile Internet experience with Yahoo! Go 2.0," said Marco Boerries, executive vice president, Connected Life, Yahoo!. "Today, in addition to delivering indispensable mobile services and starting points to the mobile Internet, we are focused on leading and enabling the global mobile ecosystem and making it a reality. This prestigious award recognizes our continued focus on reaching our ultimate goal to bring the best possible Internet experience to the billions of mobile consumers around the globe."
In a ceremony late last evening at the Mobile World Congress 2008, more than 900 industry leaders and senior executives witnessed Yahoo! accept the coveted trophy for an innovative product that was designed from the ground up and makes it simple for consumers to quickly access their favorite content through their mobile.
GSMA CEO Rob Conway said: "Each year, as the influence of mobile communications spreads further to enhance more and more aspects of people's lives, the scope of the Awards become greater, and the competition becomes more intense as a result. Because the mobile world is such an amazing universe of opportunities, its gravitational forces are pulling other industries into its realm—internet, finance, advertising, music, and film. What WEB 2.0 really needs is to go mobile and now it has thanks to Yahoo! Go 2.0. Crammed full of every widget you ever needed and some you didn't know you did – until now!"
The judges selected Yahoo! Go 2.0 as the best service for optimizing content for the mobile screen and making the services users access the most easily discoverable. Yahoo! Go 2.0 is currently available for more than 270 handsets including Window Mobile devices. The customizable experience encompasses content from the entire Web, not just Yahoo!
Boerries added, "This award comes just weeks after we launched the all-new Yahoo! Go 3.0 in early beta in the US, building on our award winning 2.0 version and delivering a robust, personalized starting point to the mobile Internet."
The launch of Yahoo! Go 3.0 further solidifies Yahoo!'s leadership position in delivering leading-edge mobile services to consumers worldwide. Yahoo!'s award-winning, flagship all-in-one mobile offering is designed to deliver more of what consumers want, wherever, however and whenever they want it. Yahoo! Go 3.0 takes mobile services to the next level with an upgraded and feature-rich user interface, a truly personalized home page and customizable access to consumers' favorite Internet brands and services through easy-to-use third-party widgets.
Yahoo! Go 3.0 is currently available to consumer in the US and supported on more than 50 devices. Yahoo! Go 3.0 is expected to be available in the UK by the end of Q1 2008, with localized version of the service expected to launch across Europe in Q2 2008.
