Tusmobil goes green with high-speed multimedia mobile services
Nokia Siemens Networks’ energy-efficient solution gives Slovenian operator a combination of customer benefits and energy savings
Slovenia’s mobile operator Tusmobil d.o.o. has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to boost its network capabilities in order to offer differentiating high-end mobile internet, data and multimedia services to its customers.
Tusmobil and Nokia Siemens Networks have this week signed an agreement that will expand the operator’s network by deploying 400 environmentally-friendly base stations and expanding as well as optimizing the operator’s core network with a leading-edge mobile switching solution.
"Tusmobil is committed to offering Slovenians exciting and unique mobile services,” said Marko Fujs, Tusmobil CEO. "Nokia Siemens Networks has the capacity and support services to make this one of the fastest network rollouts in Europe and so our subscribers will be able to enjoy the benefits of a modern high speed network before the end of 2008.”
Nokia Siemens Networks will provide implementation services as well as network management tools. With the current upgrade, Tusmobil’s core network will evolve towards a fully convergent core architecture.
The upgrade will significantly improve network efficiency and coverage, allowing Tusmobil to offer new services to its customers, including high-speed mobile data and multimedia, like mobile television. Powered with High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology from Nokia Siemens Networks, the end users will be able to enjoy high download speeds of up to 14 Mbps, depending on mobile phone capabilities.
A key issue in addition to the cost savings and improved capacity and coverage is the environmentally friendly technology supplied. The Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi base station to be used in the project, gives power savings at site of over 60 percent, compared to traditional 3G equipment, and allows for a reduction of the number of sites required to provide the improved services by over 25 percent. The Nokia Siemens Networks MSC Server softswitch solution, based on 3GPP Release 4, allows operators to boost switching capacity with savings of up to 70 percent in operating expenses, while fully supporting future IP multimedia services.
"Nokia Siemens Networks is excited to support the expansion of Tusmobil’s range of services with the fast deployment of a ‘green’ and environmentally-friendly technology, being one of a kind in Europe," said Konstantinos Koroneos, Customer Team Head for Tusmobil at Nokia Siemens Networks. "We are proud to extend our successful partnership with Tusmobil from their existing GSM/EDGE network to an innovative and modern high speed multimedia network for the future."
The contract marks an extension of cooperation between Tusmobil and Nokia Siemens Networks dating back to 2006, when Nokia Siemens Networks solution was chosen as GSM/EDGE core and radio network supplier.
