Taiwan market: Handset sales down 8.5% on month in April

Sales of handsets in Taiwan totaled slightly over 540,000 units in April 2008, compared to 590,000 units sold in March, according to preliminary data compiled by retail channels in Taiwan.

Nokia continued to lead rivals as the largest vendor in the Taiwan handset market with a 31% share in terms of unit sales, followed by Sony Ericsson with a 24% share, Samsung Electronics at 15%, Motorola at 11% and LG Electronics at 5.5%.

High Tech Computer (HTC) took a 1.5% share in terms of unit sales but the company was ranked the fifth largest vendor in terms of sales value with a 5% share, compared with LG's 4.5%.
