Motorola Enhances Digital Addressable Controller – New Software Release Simplifies Secured Access Control
Web-based graphical user interface and rich new features dramatically improve a cable operator’s ability to manage video distribution
HORSHAM, Pa. – 25 June 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today introduced the Motorola Digital Addressable Controller 4.0 (DAC 4.0) software upgrade for DAC customers. The new version, unveiled at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, is tantamount to a product re-design that enhances a DAC operator’s ability to use, configure and manage digital video assets. DAC 4.0 software, with advanced features is now available to existing DAC6000 customers for evaluation and will be included standard in future hardware deployments.
The most immediate visible change of DAC 4.0 is the addition of a newly designed web-based user interface that makes utilizing the functions of the controller easier and more intuitive for a DAC operator. Motorola DAC 4.0 also automates manually intensive processes like channel map changes, freeing operators to perform other crucial functions. These enhancements will greatly reduce the chance of mistakes in configuration of the system.
“DAC 4.0 is a great leap forward in the evolution our DAC product,” said Chris Poli director of product line management, conditional access products for Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility business. “This is the first of many advancements in our product roadmap that we will share at a special DAC 4.0 seminar during SCTE. Motorola is proud to bring this user-friendly, efficient, feature rich upgrade for our DAC customers.”
Also among the rich features of DAC 4.0 is implementation of support for functions that require import and export of bulk changes in XML, new customized reports which can be exported into various standard spreadsheet compatible formats. DAC 4.0 enables new monitoring capabilities via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Managed Information Base (MIB) which allows DAC operators and remote support team to obtain alerts on system status.
The Motorola DAC 4.0 is interoperable and supports a wide variety of address functions including Impulse Pay-Per-View (PPV), Call ahead PPV, subscription authorization and most cable operator billing systems.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is being held at the Philadelphia Convention Center June 24-27. Visitors to the show are invited to the Motorola stand #1251 for a preview of DAC 4.0 or can access DAC seminar materials by contacting Deirdre Clarke at dclarke@motorola.com.
