Police end homeless man's six-month stay on Boulder store roof

BOULDER — Boulder police say a homeless man had been living on the roof of a cell phone store since December until his arrest last week.

Luke Barrett told police he was living on the roof of a Boulder T-Mobile store because he was left alone and his possessions were secure there. Store manager Mike Dillon says employees suspected someone was living on the roof because cleaning employees and maintenance crews had previously found cushions and a sleeping bag.

The 25-year-old man is serving a one-week jail sentence after pleading guilty to trespassing and obstructing an officer because he ran away from police after he was seen jumping onto the building Friday. Barrett was arrested after police scaled the roof and drew their guns.
