Arima Communications to ship 5-megapixel camera phones to LG in 4Q

Taiwan-based ODM handset maker Arima Communications will begin to ship a KC-series 5-megapixel camera phone model to LG Electronics before the end of 2008, according to sources at Taiwan handset industry.

In addition to the 5-megapixel model, Arima will also speed up the shipments of an additional 2-3 new handsets to LG in the fourth quarter of this year, to cash in on the growing handset business at the South Korea vendor, the sources noted.

Arima, a major contract handset maker for LG, eventually will benefit significantly from LG's robust performance of its handset unit in the second quarter of this year, during which LG saw its handset shipments expand 45% on year to 27.7 million units, the sources stated.
