Motorola Donates Two-Way Radios to St. Paul Police Department for the 2008 Republican National Convention

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul City Council on Wednesday will accept a donation of mission critical communications equipment from Motorola, Inc. in support of the 2008 Republican National Convention (RNC), to be held September 1-4. For their contribution, the St. Paul City Council will recognize Motorola during the council's weekly meeting at 3:30 p.m. on August 27.

Motorola will provide the St. Paul Police Department with 1,100 portable radios and additional support personnel to assist public safety communications around the clock during the RNC. The radios are interoperable with Minnesota's state-of-the-art Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response System (ARMER). The ARMER system, designed by Motorola, uses the 800 MHz public safety radio band and enables communications among all of the public safety agencies in the St. Paul metro area.

"St. Paul takes the safety and security of our citizens and the visitors supporting the Republican National Convention very seriously, and as such, we needed a quick and dependable communications system to ensure the seamless management of the thousands of visitors and hundreds of vehicles supporting multiple Convention venues," said Deputy Chief Matt Bostrom. "Motorola stepped up to help us meet our challenges and we're looking forward to a successful hosting of the 2008 RNC."

"Motorola looks forward to providing the St. Paul Police Department with radio equipment and services to assist the city as it hosts this year's Republican National Convention," said Karen Tandy, senior vice president, public affairs and communications, Motorola, Inc. "Motorola has a long history of supporting public safety in Minnesota, including designing and building the ARMER 800 MHz communications system that serves St. Paul and other areas throughout the state. Motorola is a trusted leader in providing mission critical communications and we have extensive experience supporting our customers during national conventions and a broad range of civic events."

In its resolution regarding the Motorola contribution, the Mayor and St. Paul City Council stated that on behalf of the citizens of St. Paul, they accept "this donation of equipment and services from Motorola and extend their sincere appreciation to this company."
