Sony Ericsson somewhat mentions "Xperia 2"
It's quite interesting how proud Sony Ericsson is about its upcoming Xperia X1 Windows Mobile smartphone which is mentioned in every second sentence during this morning's presentation (I cannot remeber Sony Ericsson was so proud about its UIQ platform ever). While it will not support Sony Ericsson's new and yesterday announced PlayNow plus music service (because of the lack OMA 2.0 aka DRM support in Windows Mobile), the Xperia line is definitely in Sony Ericsson's focus. During today's executive sessions, it was briefly mentioned that some X1 followers will follow anytime sooner or later but again Sony Ericsson declined to comment if upcoming Xperia's will run on Windows Mobile or other platforms but the Xperia is definitely Sony Ericsson's smartphone-line and therefore has to run on a kind of smart OS.
It was confirmed that Sony Ericsson isn't yet part of the Open Handset Alliance (aka Android) and therefore Xperia phones must either run on Windows Mobile or Symbian. And the latest rumors here said that the, let us call it for now "X2", will run on Windows Mobile as well.
Nevertheless - as Sony Ericsson said several times - they are not commenting unannounced products or rumors so we have to wait to get something more official.
