Taiwan Market: LG Electronics launches DVB-T mobile TV handsets
Following with the introduction of DVB-T mobile TV handsets from GSmart and white-box vendors, LG Electronics has also launched the DVB-T-capable HB620T in Taiwan, which has already seen shipments of 100,000 units in two months in Germany, according to market watchers.
The LG HB620T is a flip handset with 3.5G 7.2Mbps connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera and 2-inch widescreen display priced at NT$12,900 (US$402.63). It will cost only NT$6,990 with a subscription from Vibo Telecom. Through the HB602T, consumers can watch up to 15 TV channels and listen to one radio channel in Taiwan.
LG HB620T is expected to make a great impact on white-box handsets, the sources added.
The company is planning to introduce at least five mid- and high-end models in the forth quarter increasing market share and average selling prices (ASPs). LGE hopes to reach a 10% market share in 2008, according to Finsen Chen, vice president of telecom business at LGE Taiwan.
