du chooses Nokia Siemens Networks’ green technology for network expansion

Nokia Siemens Networks is to deploy its market-leading energy efficient radio access solution under a turnkey network expansion and managed services contract with du- the UAE’s integrated telecom operator- worth about US$ 225 million.

The radio access solution, which includes the advanced 2G/3G/HSPA technologies and a range of services that meet rigorous regional demands, will enable du to extend its network to cater for four million subscribers across the UAE, while realizing cost savings.

The solution offered by Nokia Siemens Networks comprises the market-leading multi-technology Flexi Base Station; a small, lightweight, modular, weatherproof, and energy efficient base station which will significantly help du improve network quality through offering better signal strength and wider coverage to their customers. Enabling up to 70% savings in site power consumption and hence Flexi Base Station is expected to save OPEX in du network.

The scope of work also comprises Internet-HSPA, an innovation providing future cost savings while boosting network’s capacity and enhancing user experience. In addition, support services will help Du to improve commercial, operational and technical performance of its network, freeing them to focus on their core business.

With this expansion, du will be able to SW upgrade high speed data access services; attracting more customers, and increasing revenue and customer loyalty.

Du will also expand it’s high-capacity, cost-efficient mobile softswitching and future-proof Home Location Register solutions, as well as the related mediation system. Du will continue to monitor, control, analyze and manage their network with the Nokia Siemens Networks network and service management solution, which will be upgraded to better support the operator in managing their customers’ service experience.
