TELUS selects Huawei Technologies to provide equipment for next generation wireless network

Huawei Technologies and TELUS announced that they have entered into a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement whereby Huawei will provide TELUS with Radio Access Network technology for TELUS' new next generation wireless network.

Reinforcing TELUS' leadership in the mobile broadband market and the ability to provide clients with the best service and networks in Canada, TELUS announced on October 10, 2008 its plans to build in association with Bell a next generation wireless network beginning immediately with equipment from Huawei.

Initially based on the latest version of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology, the network will complement TELUS' existing 3G network solutions and future-proofs TELUS for a smoother transition to fourth generation technology based on the emerging, global long-term evolution (LTE) standard. A full national launch is expected by early 2010.
"We are excited to be working with TELUS," said Ken Hu, Chief Sales and Service officer at Huawei Technologies "With industry leading UMTS/HSPA technologies which have been widely deployed globally, as well as our leading position in LTE development, we are confident that we will provide TELUS with a superior network that will evolve seamlessly to the technology of the future and help TELUS enhance its competitiveness in Canada."

"After a thorough review, TELUS has selected Huawei Technologies to provide their advanced Radio Base Stations and Wireless infrastructure for our advanced network build because of Huawei's leading technologies, their strong carrier global track record and their solutions Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)," said Eros Spadotto, executive vice president of Technology Strategy at TELUS.
