LONDON, United Kingdom – 06 October 2008 – Symbian Limited, the market leader in open operating systems for mobile phones, today welcomes the announcement of Nokia’s eagerly awaited touch screen phone, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the first device based on S60 5th Edition and Symbian OS™ v9.4.
This latest mobile phone is based on S60 5th Edition and Symbian OS v9.4, the latest shipped version of Symbian OS. Symbian OS v9.4 is optimized for convergence, designed with performance and feature enhancements that enable consumers to enjoy new uses and experiences on their mobile phone, ensuring the highest level of power efficiency and platform security. Symbian OS enables savings to phone build costs and time-to-market, delivering a scalable mobile operating system for the global market.
Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic will be among the first devices to support Comes With Music, Nokia's groundbreaking service offering one year of unlimited access to millions of tracks. The phone features a 3.2" (360 x 640) touch screen, WLAN and 3G connectivity, a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, integrated A-GPS, accelerometer, proximity sensor, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks, support for all main digital music formats, and a 3.5mm jack.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be available worldwide beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008.
