The three leading China telecom service providers – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – are expected to invest a total of 280 billion yuan (US$40.94 billion) to establish 3G networks in China over the next two years, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted media reports in China as indicating.

The China government is expected to issue 3G operating licenses to the three service providers at the end of this year or early next year, with China Mobile to be granted a license to offer TD-SCDMA services, China Unicom a WCDMA license, and China Telecom a CDMA 2000 license, the paper noted.
