Alcatel-Lucent remains committed to WiMAX
Alcatel-Lucent still remains committed to the WiMAX industry although earlier comments revealed that it will reduce its spending on the development of WiMAX products, according to company sources.
The company's WiMAX IOT (interoperability testing) center in Taiwan has already conducted tests on WiMAX devices from eight Taiwan network equipment makers, including Asustek Computer, Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB), MediaTek, Delta Networks, Zyxel Communications and Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), the sources indicated.
WiMAX devices recently tested include indoor and outdoor WIMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products, WiMAX adapters for PCs, and built-in WiMAX modules for notebooks.
Alcatel-Lucent has also introduced Taiwan makers to talks for possible cooperation with a number of telecom operators from Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Australia and Cambodia, said the sources.
In addition, Alcatel-Lucent has begun development projects aiming to integrate WiMAX and LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies, the sources stated.
