Wireless Representatives Tutor Mature Adults, Providing Tips at Free Educational Seminar in Battery Park January 13

AT&T Mobility announced the first in a series of new public service events in New York City designed to benefit the city's mature population. The company will host the first "Cell Phones for Seniors" event in Manhattan on Tuesday, January 13th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Hallmark Battery Park City - 455 North End Avenue.

"We're delighted AT&T Mobility is hosting this free public service program for our residents," said Ulrich Wall, executive director for The Hallmark Battery Park City, a Brookdale Senior Living independent living community. "This is a vital learning experience for older adults who want to become more familiar with their wireless phones and learn more about staying connected with available technology."
Alan J. Gerson, New York City Councilman representing District 1 which includes Battery Park City, noted, "Today, it's more important than ever that mature adults learn how to use wireless phones. It's the way the world communicates. This training will not only help them take advantage of the many features offered by wireless technology, but increase their feeling of safety and security as well by knowing how to use their wireless phone in an emergency."

"We are very proud to be part of this initiative. Now more than ever more mature adults are embracing new technology such as wireless to stay connected to family and friends," added Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager of AT&T Mobility in New York/New Jersey. "More are sending text messages and are eager to learn about GPS wireless services and how to surf the Internet from their cell phone."

Participants from The Hallmark Battery Park City are encouraged to bring their wireless phone regardless of which wireless carrier they currently use. AT&T Mobility also will also have "practice" phones on-site. The session will cover everything from mobile phone basics, such as controlling the volume on your phone, to checking voice mail to storing a number in the phone's address book. Seniors can also learn about AT&T Mobility's Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC) options as well as how to send text messages and share pictures on their phones. Volunteers from the company will provide hands-on demonstrations and one-on-one instructional support.

During the event, Hallmark Battery Park City is encouraging attendees to drop off any old or used cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers. Proceeds from the recycled phones will be used by Cell Phones for Soldiers to buy long distance calling cards for our military overseas.
