CHT to cut handset purchases nearly 10% in 2009, says paper
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), the largest telecom service provider in Taiwan, expects its handset purchases to decline to 2.1 million units in 2009, down from 2.3 million units it purchased in 2008, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted company sources as indicating.
Total handset sales in the Taiwan market are also expected to drop to slightly over six million units in 2009, compared to about 6.5 million units sold in Taiwan last year, the paper quoted CHT's internal estimates as saying.
CHT, while expecting the number of its mobile subscribers to grow to 9.1 million in 2009 from 8.9 million in 2008, projects revenues generated by its mobile communications unit to stay flat at NT$75.4 billion (US$2.26 billion) in 2009, the paper said.
