HTC receives orders for 8 new handsets slated for 2009, says paper

High Tech Computer (HTC) has received orders for at least eight new handset models slated for 2009 from a number of telecom service operators, including T-Mobile, Vodafone, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

According to HTC's roadmap, the company will unveil part of its new Windows Mobile-based PDA phones during the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) to be held in Barcelona in February, and it plans to launch more Android-powered models in the second half of 2009, said the paper.

Codenames of HTC new phones for 2009 reportedly include Windows Mobile-enabled Saffire, Rhodium, Tungsten, Barium and Topaz and Android-based Hero. In addition, the company also plans to launch a new UMPC, the Thoth, this year, the paper noted.
