Motorola Wins German Federal State Tender For TETRA Digital Radio Devices In Saxony-Anhalt
Order for the delivery of handheld radio devices for utilization in high risk environments
TAUNUSSTEIN, 15. January 2009 – Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has concluded a framework agreement with the German Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt for the delivery of TETRA digital radio devices for the new digital radio network. Motorola will provide 1000 MTP850Ex handheld radio devices that are specifically designed for the utilization in hazardous surroundings, as well as corresponding accessories. The intrinsically safe “Ex-device range” will be used primarily by fire departments in Saxony-Anhalt, in the Eastern part of Germany. The TETRA digital radio devices will be delivered throughout the next three years.
The MTP850Ex is certified under the ATEX and IECEx international certification schemes for protection against most explosive gas and dust clouds. Combined with an uncompromising mix of safety features, smart ergonomics and robust design the handheld radio device is distinguished by its high protection rating. The device ensures secure and reliable voice and data communication even under extreme conditions, such as high temperatures. The keypad on the device has extra-large keys, making it intuitive to handle and is easy to use even with gloves on.
Within the scope of the tender process, Motorola has come out top for the form and functionality of its devices and support it provides users. After extensive technical assessments of the equipment and a precise cost analysis, the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt decided on Motorola’s handheld radio devices due to the high level of device performance and Motorola’s heritage and expertise in TETRA.
“We are happy that the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt has chosen our robust and reliable devices designed for the use in difficult environments. Motorola's TETRA solutions have been the first choice already for more than 45 customers in the private sector in Germany”, said Manuel Torres, vice president and general manager, Government & Public Safety, Motorola, EMEA. “This provides a good foundation for future ways in which we can support the federal states across Germany.”
Motorola offers official authorities and organizations entrusted with public safety tasks (BOS) an extensive portfolio, which includes the MTP850Ex as well as standard handheld radio devices, mobile radio units with optional gateway and repeater function for use in vehicles, covert radio devices for concealed carrying, and accessories that are customized to the user’s needs. All devices support end-to-end encoding as required in digital radio communication by the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (German Federal Office for Security in Information Technology - BSI).
Motorola provides TETRA technology to over 350 customers across 90 countries world-wide.
