Motorola’s WiMAX Adaptor Receives Second Award for Outstanding Innovation
USBw 100 Receives INTERNET TELEPHONY® Magazine’s 11th Annual Product of the Year Award
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - January 15, 2009 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that Technology Marketing Corporation’s (TMC®) INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine (www.itmag.com) has named the Motorola wi4 WiMAX USBw 100 as a recipient of its 2008 Product of the Year Award. The USBw 100 was honored just months ago at WiMAX World 2008 with its Best of WiMAX World 2008 Award for devices/peripherals/application software.
The USBw 100 is available now, and is one of two Motorola WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) offered by Clearwire with the launch of its Clear™ mobile Internet service in Portland, Ore.
This device is Motorola’s first WiMAX USB adaptor. The USBw 100 is a thumb-drive-sized device that is available in three versions to connect to WiMAX networks in each of the three licensed bands approved for use around the world - 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5 GHz. The Motorola USBw 100 plugs directly into laptop computers to provide mobile and nomadic wireless broadband connectivity, both indoors and out.
“Motorola’s USBw 100 is a prime example of the innovation we’ve built into our entire WiMAX portfolio. From our CPE to network infrastructure, we’ve designed our WiMAX solutions to meet the engineering and business needs of operators while providing a great end user experience for consumers and enterprises,” said Darren McQueen, vice president, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility.
Motorola’s wi4 WiMAX USB adaptor has been designed with multiple antenna technology to provide reliable, high-speed connectivity in the various and unpredictable environments where users expect service, especially indoor home, business and coffee shop environments, as well as on-the-go in a mobile world. The USBw 100 delivers increased range and higher throughput when compared with single-antenna solutions. When used with Motorola’s dual antenna Diversity Access Point (DAP) /Wireless Access Point (WAP) 400 Series, both uplink and downlink performance are significantly enhanced.
