IDMs cut MEMS prices targeting China white-box handset market
International IDMs, including Freescale Semiconductor, Analog Devices (ADI) and STMicroelectronics, have lowered prices for their accelerometers (g-sensors) to compete with China-based MEMS providers, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Like China-based MEMS providers, these IDMs cooperate with local gaming software companies to integrate the software with their g-sensors and then sell such solutions to MediaTek, the largest chip provider in China's white-box handset market, the sources said. The competition from international players is expected to impact China's MEMS companies, the sources added.
