Taiwan market: Chunghwa Telecom sees FTTx surpass 2M/256K ADSL in user volume
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has indicated the number of its 10Mbps/2Mbps FTTx (fiber to the home/building/curb) broadband Internet-access subscribers has risen to 1.05 million, exceeding for the first time the number of its 2Mbps/256Kbps ADSL subscribers (1.035 million) and expected to keep increasing to 1.8 million by the end of 2009.
CHT has offered incentives to encourage its ADSL subscribers, 2.5 million in number currently, to shift to FTTx, the company pointed out. Taiwan's home FTTx penetration reached 12% at the end of 2008, ranking globally fourth next to South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan, CHT quoted FTTH Council statistics as indicating.
